Squishy

We often call him Squishy!  All I can say about the below is that the Word of God is true.
"Asher's food will be rich."  Genesis 49:20 a

Asher's Nursery

Now that he is almost half a year old, I thought I would share some pictures of his nursery!  I wanted something timeless and classic with vintage touches.  I also wanted cheap!  God provided some fun things along the way!  I used some photography props such as the wagon and Coca Cola crate. Amelia blessed me by making his door hanging "Asher Tate" sign, the initial burlap frame and the wooden "blessed" pallet. (love her.)  Along the way, I found small fun things at flea markets like the Hummel girl and boy for only $14.  I am still so thankful we found his complete custom made bedding set at Rhea Lana's for only $40!  I bought the rocker/glider from a friend for $40 as well. My favorite thing is Asher's smiley newborn portrait...a friend gifted me with the funds to splurge on a canvas.   Everywhere I look, I see God's goodness in giving us the blessing of a fun baby and sweet nursery.

I worship the God of details.

I am a macro photography kind of gal.  I think if I lived in the country and could take sunset pictures, I might be a landscape gal.  But I don't, so I strive to see the beauty in the details.

I worship the Creator who is in the details.  Each little toe, each tiny bud, each piercing eye, each raindrop, each little bug.  He sees it all.  It comforts me, knowing this Creator that created the vast ocean and the deep Grand Canyon also sees me.  He sees my heart.  He hears my cries.  He knows me.  He fashioned every single part of me that sets me apart from everyone else. He fashioned you in the same way.

I worship this God.  This God who is into beautiful details.

New Skills

Asher Tate here.  I got skills.  Mad skills.  You see, I know the older peeps round these parts have been holding out on me.  I see a dog with a bushy tail that I would love to grab hold of.  I see those boys enter their bedrooms and I wonder what kind of treasures they are hiding.  Legos!  Hand over the legos!  I see the dog bowl full of water that would be perfect for splashing in.  You see, I got me some new skills that are gonna carry me far.  I can do the airplane and I can inch and I can get on all fours.  This is a game changer, people.  Let's see if those brothers still adore me in another month or two.  hee hee hee

A New Treasure {a good Christmas idea}

It came in brown paper wrapping.  The best gifts do.  Unassuming.  Confident that the inside treasure is sufficient without a lot of flashy wrapping.  It was for Asher.  And me.  And all the other boys.

The Bible for little ones.  For their level.  For my level.  For all levels who enjoy story.  For all who enjoy being part of something bigger than themselves.

I wanted to slap the 3rd son on the backside with a wooden spoon as I dished out heaping hot oatmeal into bowls.  Why do we have to go to church he whined.  I wanted to tell him to be thankful for restoration and propitiation and sanctification and justification and all the other gracious-tions of the world.

I had all but forgotten my whining to the Lord three whole minutes earlier.  Eric is out of town.  Do I have to do this by myself?  Getting us out the door on Sundays as a single parent is harder than hard.  Why do we have to go to church, I whined.

God whispered into my soul to give a quiet answer to that inquisitive third son.  Sam, do you know who John the Baptist is?  I handed him the story from the treasure book.  He read.  He learned.  His level.  He was prepared for the sermon on the same subject.

Our little community is cloaked in grief this week.  So much heartache.  So many questions that will be left unanswered.  So many prayers lifted up to the One who knows.

This little treasure reminded me that it doesn't end here.  We will one day see clearly.  The Savior-Son-Servant will remove our cloak of grief for a cloak of joy.

{The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones would make a delightful Christmas gift for a child.}
