Burdened

As my previous post disclosed, my brother has had some atheists visit his blog recently. Atheists who are created in the very image of the God they deny. Usually, righteous anger wells up inside of me when I hear of their latest arguments; after all, my God is alive and well! But today, God showed me a piece of his heart...his heart towards each and every person that denies Him. I happened upon one person's blog...she used to believe in God and was raised with a good bit of Biblical knowledge. What happened to cause such a turn around? Did she lose a loved one in a tragic way? God is still faithful. Did she lose her source of income? God is still faithful.

Living in the Bible belt, and surrounded by Believers, I don't encounter people who deny the Living God. It seems so strange, really, to deny Something, and then spend the rest of your days talking about Him! They are obsessed with something that in their minds, doesn't even exist!

I copied some of what this lady posted because I think it is good for us to remember...Jesus came to set us free. There are those still in chains. Here is what she said:

"But, all of a sudden, I felt the immense need to cry out to God, or somebody, for help, urgently needing to get rid of the pain. Withholding the reason, I even informed a friend (who, by the way, is missing in action) that I needed to create an imaginary friend, so I could pray to something. He jokingly suggested Bruce Almighty. Yearning for the comfort of trusting God to deliver me, I remembered the Bible verses I used to cling to. “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” Jeremiah 33:3."

"What I find that I do is that I just feel sorry there is no God to cry to. The idea that there may be one never crosses my mind. It is more like, "Darn, wouldn't it be nice if there really were a God I could trust to help me."

Am I the only one burdened by her thinking? Lose the chains, Jesus. You are the only one that can.

The Famous One

My brother is a cool guy. He is a youth pastor. He is learning to play guitar. He wants kids to be free in Christ. He is becoming world famous. That's right. Famous for the Famous One.

He has a blog and is not ashamed to speak of Christ and His redeeming love. He is being attacked. Some atheist found his blog and decided to put it on his "hit" or "anti" blog list. Atheists from all over (hence his becoming world famous) are attacking his comment section with arguments and hate. I couldn't be more proud of my baby brother.

This is such a tricky path God has led him down. Arguing (or even speaking) with someone who has not been given light to see truth is a tricky path.

I told him he should count himself blessed. He now has specific names of people to pray for. He now knows that his light is shining bright...the enemy has made it quite clear that the light is blinding and painful.

We should never be afraid to speak of Our Savior's Love for us! It is everything!

Idol Rundown

Here is my take on the idols and how they performed tonight:

Danny...I love you man, but tonight you just didn't stand and deliver for me. I hated the way that song started. But I still am rooting for you to be in the top 3.

Kris...You come from an amazing town, baby! We are voting for you as I type. That said, you weren't my fave tonight, dude. You are still as cutie patootie as can be, though.

Lil...Don't pick Tina Turner unless your name is Tina Turner. I admire you for being a Mom of 3 and still being on the show, though!

Anoop...This may have been your best performance...where have you been hiding? Oh, yeah, under the shadow of big boys like Usher.

Scott...It is time to go home now. I love the fact that you are uber-talented, but don't pick a power ballad unless you can deliver.

Allison...one of the best of the night! As soon as I heard you were singing Bonnie Raitt, I just knew you would rock it out! Very good song choice!

Matt...man, you got soul, baby! And you were a darling little boy! Very good song choice and the 2nd best male vocal of the night!

Adam...I have no words. I don't really like you, but you have some of the best range and control I have ever heard in a male voice. I think you would be great on Broadway. It would be a great avenue for the drama, drama, drama to come out. BTW, best vocals tonight. But I still don't know if I would buy your album.

So, there you guys have it. I know you were all dying to know what I thought!

That's My King!

I love this video! Check it out here:

What's Your Name?

One of the things I am looking forward to concerning Heaven is finding out what my name is! Revelation 2:17 says: "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it."

I used to think of this name as something that God came up with after I arrived home. But, the other day, it dawned on me that He has probably had His very own name for me from the start...from even before I was born. Husbands and wives sit around and talk about future names for their children...women go around filling up notebooks full of sweet possibilities. Why should it be different with God? Except, he gets the joy of naming us before we are created WITH the full revelation of who we will be because He is the creator.

There is something special and precious about sharing something with one Being alone. No one else will know my name. Maybe it is because no one else will understand why God chose that name for me. It will become that much more sweet and priceless because my Redeemer will be the only one that will utter it. It will be a fitting name. I am sure that when he first whispers it, I will wonder why I haven't heard it before. Or maybe it will be like deja-vu, knowing that deep down in my very soul, I have heard it before.

George MacDonald explains the connection between our new name and our true identity this way: "God's name for a man must be the expression of his own idea of the man, that being whom he had in his thought when he began to make the child, and whom he kept in his thought through the long process of creation which went to realize the idea. To tell the name is to seal the success."

Oooh, I like that.

I think that when we hear our new names, it will dawn on us, "that is who I am to be!" It will reflect the part/attribute of us that was created to look the most like our God. Each of us will have a unique thing that showcases the glory of God, just like each of us will have a unique name! Just one more reason to anticipate our real home. Quite frankly, this earth feels more and more like alien-land all the time.

Easter Cookie Idea!

Easter Cookies
I stumbled onto a blog today that had the recipe for these Easter Cookies. I thought it was really neat so I thought I'd share.

Do the night before Easter morning.

1 cup of whole pecans
pinch salt
3 egg whites
1 c. sugar
zipper baggie
1 t. vinegar
wooden spoon
tape
Bible

Preheat oven to 300- very important to do this first.

Put pecanse in baggie and have kids beat them with a wooden spoon until they are broken until little pieces. Explain after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by the Roman soldiers.
Read John 19:1-3

Let child smell the vinegar. Put 1 t. in the mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, He was given vinegar to drink.
Read John 19:28-38

Add egg whites to vinegar.
Explain that the eggs represent new life and that Jesus gave His life to give us life.
Read John 10:10-11

Sprinkle salt in to child's hand. Let them taste the salt and brush the rest into the bowl.
Explain that the salt represents salty tears that were shed by Jesus' followers and the bitterness of our own sin.
Read Luke 23:27

Add 1 c. of sugar
This is the sweetest part of the story because Jesus died because He loved us and wants us to know and belong to Him.
Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16

Beat with a mixer on high until stiff peaks form.
Explain that the color white represents purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.
Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teasponful onto a wax paper covered cookie sheet.
Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid.
Read Matthew 27:57-60

Put cookie sheet into oven, close oven and turn OFF.
Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door.
Explain that Jesus tomb was sealed.
Read Matthew 27:65-66

Go to bed, explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight ( I know mine will!) Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.
John 16:20 and 22

On Easter morning, open oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies will be hollow. On the first Easter, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Jesus is alive!
Read Matthew 28:1-9

The Blood of Jesus

With Easter approaching, how cool that the Holy Spirit laid this topic on my heart a few weeks ago?! When He first whispered, "study my blood," I thought, "Ummm, that is pretty clear and concise, are you sure?" I am so glad He is patient with me in my stupidity and even my arrogance.

I found a book by Andrew Murray concerning the blood of Christ that just blew me away. It is titled, "The Power of the Blood of Jesus." The first chapter speaks of redemption and it was so rich and profound, I haven't moved much beyond it! I wanted to share some of what I loved concerning this topic.

Blood represents the soul or life of something. If a dove is a nice sacrifice, then a sheep or goat is better. An ox is better than that. A man is far better than an ox. So, imagine the holy Son of God's blood. Nothing beats that. It trumps all.

Murray states that there are many blessings for one washed in the blood...reconciliation, cleansing, sanctification, union with God, victory, life itself...but they all start and are wrapped up in the first blessing of redemption by the blood.

I guess what hits me the most is that there is one common theme throughout scripture...beginning to end. It is blood. In the old testament, we see Abel offer an acceptable sacrifice to God...which results in fellowship with Him. We later see Noah step off the ark onto a cleansed earth and the first thing he does is offer a blood sacrifice. We next see Abraham offer Isaac on the altar...who is spared, but the substitution of a lamb is taught. We see the reference to why Jesus is called our "horn of salvation"...because the ram was caught in the thicket by its horns.

Moving through the pages, we see instructions for the Passover...life was only spared by the blood on the doorframes. Later, the Israelites are commanded to build a sanctuary...a place for God to dwell among them...and everything inside will point to sacrifice and blood.

After 4000 years of preparing men for this concept of sacrifice and blood, enter Jesus. In the new testament, Jesus himself tells us that the very reason He came was for the shedding of His own blood. We must partake in that, or we won't be freed from sin and death. His sacrifice was the final and ultimate one. It was the only one that satisfied God. It is the sole basis for our freedom. It is our redemption.

In the future, in our Heavenly Home, we will still sing about the blood. "There was no phrase by which the great purposes of God, the wondrous love of the Son of God, the power of His redemption, and the joy and thanksgiving of the redeemed--can be gathered up and expressed save this--"THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB." Think about that! One phrase sums it all up for us who have been called and redeemed!

Some things I think God wants me to take away from this study:

1. God can only deal with sin through blood

2. God wants us to think about Christ's blood the same way He does

3. When we value His blood, we will draw near to God and be infused with love, joy, and His glory

4. The blood of Jesus will always be the GREATEST mystery! (So much for my clear and concise statement, huh?)

5. We should desire to understand more about the power of His blood and TRUST Him to reveal new insights to us. "Trust Him to work out in you the full merits of His blood so that your whole life may be an uninterrupted abiding in the sanctuary of God's presence.'

Let's open our souls this week that precedes Easter and ask Him to reveal the blessings of the blood to us!

Thank you Jesus! Your blood trumps all...even death!

Pooped

Man, I have no energy today! I could curl up with a good book all the day long, I tell you! But, the schedule isn't going to permit that. I am eating a Caribou Coffee granola bar hoping there is some caffeine inside to jar me to alertness.

On a funny note, I was watching some preacher this morning while using some free weights. The guy said, "You know, sometimes you just have to swallow your pride!" Sam was in there with me and came back with, "NO! I don't want to swallow my PRIIIIIDE!" Sounds like a 3 year old to me!

Happy Thursday...hope you get more accomplished than me!!!! Enjoy the rain. :)

Give a Shout!

Sometimes I just have to give out a big shout to God. I mean, Heaven awaits us! No more sorrow or suffering or pain or loss or tragedy or heartache or despair. Heaven awaits us! Give a shout!

Chris Tomlin has a great new song out called "I Will Rise." My favorite line is, "And my faith shall be my eyes."

Sometimes we just need a reminder that this is true! Sometimes it is just good to sit around and daydream about what Heaven will be like. My new favorite way to think of Heaven is this: a place where you can try new things without inhibitions of failure, fear, expense, or lack of time. I tend to imagine myself on the clearest water you have ever seen, with a huge lush and green mountain scape in the background. I am on a sailboat. I am not afraid of the depths of the water or my lack of skills in sailing. I can simply enjoy the wind and the fresh new colors. I can sail! I am a sailor! "I feel good. I feel great. I'm SAAAAAAILING!! I sail! I am a sailor! Ahoy!!" (A quote for all of you 'What About Bob' lovers out there.)

Let's encourage each other today! Let's comment on what we are looking forward to about our REAL HOME! Don't worry if it sounds outlandish...it probably won't be when our faith shall be our eyes! Give a shout out to God and tell Him you can't wait to go HOME! Don't be afraid to comment...we all need a little encouragement and a "fresh view" from time to time!

Heartbroken

Pitt just lost. I love cheering for the underdog. It is madness around here. March madness because Pitt just lost. I am a mad woman now. I picked them to win it all. I hate to lose. I hate that my Dad is laughing right now as he reads this. He told me I was going down. I am a mad woman.

Conversations in Boyland

This morning, as I should have already been in the shower, I just couldn't leave my snuggle bunnies, ages 6 and 3. We were all snuggled up in my big bed. I just love crisp and cool mornings...having little boys to snuggle with makes it even better! So here are a couple of converations that transpired...
Eli: "guess what my favorite part of spring break is?"
Me: "What's that?"
Eli: "Getting to sleep in with my Mommy!"
Me: "ahhh" (...as I wipe tears from my eyes and snot from my nose)

Me: "Sam, you stink like a pee pee diaper."
Sam: "Well, you stink like an old pig!"
Me: "Every kid is different, huh, God!"

Hyssop...what you were all dying to know

I was thinking about this plant today when I read that King Solomon, "knew all about plants, from the huge cedar that grows in Lebanon to the tiny hyssop that grows in the cracks of a wall." Geesh, I guess the guy did have wisdom, huh? I always thought of him as having the type of wisdom that made it easier to make decisions, not the kind of wisdom that made him a plant nerd. Guess he had both.
I thought it would be fun to see where else hyssop was mentioned in the Bible...I knew of a couple of instances, which is why, I assure you, I had any interest at all!
The first mention that I could find was in Exodus 12:22. God is instructing the Israelites how to perform the Passover and be spared from destruction. He tells them, "Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe." The hyssop was a 3-4 foot long bushy, minty herb that functioned nicely as a paintbrush to coat the doorframes with the blood of the lambs so that death would bypass their homes.
Hyssop was used as a common cleaning agent. It was also used for medicinal purposes...especially in healing cuts. It was great to use as a hedge or border. The plant's flowers can be blue, purple, white, or red...depending on the type. I will get back to what I think is awesome concerning the colors in a minute.
Hyssop was used for purification rites for the priests in Leviticus. It was also used for the cleansing of lepers and for those that had been in contact with a corpse. I am getting the impression that it was some sort of antiseptic/disinfectant.
Probably the most common reference to hyssop is when King David is pouring his heart out to God after a major sin. He is in dire need of cleansing and restoration. In Psalm 51:7, David cries, "Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." Hyssop was used in the washing of clothes...he knew laundry was beat and pounded in that day and he wanted the very desire for sin to be pounded away in a similar fashion.
Perhaps the most piercing mention of hyssop is in John 19:29. Our sweet Jesus in hanging on the cross. In order to fulfill scripture, he asks for a drink. He is offered some wine vinegar on a sponge. They get it to his mouth via a long hyssop branch. I read somewhere that said perhaps the sheer mention of hyssop at Calvary links Christ's death with the event that set the Israelites free from slavery (Passover)...his death now setting us free from death and sin (ultimate and final Passover.)
So, back to the colors of those flowers! In Exodus, God instructs Moses on what colors to use in the Tabernacle and the Priest's garments. They included scarlet (red), blue, and purple. The significance has something to do with this: blue represents heaven (Christ came down from Heaven)...scarlet represents the shed blood that brings us life...purple represents not only the fact that Jesus is royal, but that we are as well now that we have been washed in the blood. So in God's equation, in order to get "white" (purity), you must mix blue, scarlet and purple. Sounds good to me; I never understood the color wheel that well anyway. I am just in awe that those colors are the variant colors of the flowers!
Isaiah 53:5 says that, "...by his wounds we are healed." I couldn't help but get a visual of this as I read about Solomon (1 Kings 4:3) and the hyssop "that grows in the cracks of a wall." I instantly thought about the deep cracks left on Christ's back after he was beaten prior to the cross. It is the blood of Jesus that saves us, but I couldn't help but think of this healing remedy that pours forth from his stripes. Ready to make us clean. Ready to protect, as in a hedge or border around our lives. Ready to make us a chosen people and royal priesthood.
I think what impresses me the most is that if a plant called "ezob" in Hebrew and "hyssop" in English has such significance to the Lord, then how much more significant are we to Him...as beings created in His image?

Craving Coral Anyone??

It is sunny. It is Friday. It is the perfect day to showcase my new spring toenail color. Craving Coral by Revlon, baby! I am even willing to show you my fat feet and deformed toes. I am such a faithful and loyal blog friend. Craving Coral. That is where it is at! (A special sorry to my toe and feet hating friends...hang with me, the toe and feet posts will be far and few between.)

A Few of My "New" Favorites

It is time to showcase some of my new favorite finds!

1. Not exactly what you would expect to see on a list of faves, but Tamiflu seemed to keep the rest of us from getting the flu after Cade had it. (Or maybe that was just the grace of God.)

2. The Old Navy Town Gown. I love anything long, flowing, and full of spring!
3. The whole reason for this post. Just go get it. Especially if you are of the female gender. I like mine on bananas or straight out of the jar.

4. Kiss my Face Organic Wash...kind of slimy, but it does the trick without drying out my skin. A bonus is that it smells identical to "Simply Limeade."

5. Stacy's Pita Chips...I am not a big chip eater, but I could eat the whole bag in one sitting. Great with hummus when you are feeling healthy.

What are some of your new faves that you have tried recently??

Oh, and I had to throw in my umbrella story. As I was getting out of my car this morning to go visit Eric's sick Grandmother, I attempted to open up the umbrella via the cute little automatic button on the bottom. The umbrella shot out of my hand like a rocket and flew over the shiny Cadillac next to me and parked itself on the shiny pavement. I was laughing so hard I couldn't stand it! I was also thankful it didn't land on the Cadillac!
